28. March 2020
Due to the current developments in the last few days and the requirements of the authorities regarding the spread of the coronavirus, we have to announce that the event planned for 28.03.2020 in Leipzig at the Zeitgeschichtliches Forum on our 20th anniversary has to be postponed to a later date.
We ask for your understanding.
20 years of voluntary work for Nepal
The Zeitgeschichtliche Forum in Leipzig provides the festive setting for the 20th anniversary of Nepalmed e.V. on 28 March 2020. From 11:30 am Nepalmed presents its voluntary work for the medical care of the population of Nepal.
The NGO supports hospitals and health posts in rural areas. Chairman of the association, Arne Drews from Grimma, will show milestones of development cooperation. Besides medical aid Nepalmed e.V. finances infrastructure in the Gorkha region. Roads have been built, vehicles have been purchased, accommodation for staff has been created, solar energy generation, hot water supply and a waste incineration plant have been installed. The training and further education of medical staff is of great importance. German specialists passed on their knowledge to the colleagues in countless courses. After the devastating earthquake in 2015, massive financial emergency aid was provided for the reconstruction of the buildings. Particular attention is paid to sustainable economic development. With the development of the Gorkha Heritage Trail and the Ligligkot Mountain Cinema, the region with its charming views of the nearby eight-thousand-metre peaks of Annapurna and Manaslu are brought into focus.
The NGO has over 700 members, mainly in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Two partner organisations in Nepal and Great Britain have already been founded. Eight medical studies have been carried out and more than 700 medical students have been placed on internships in Nepal. In their own publishing house Edition Nepalmed, the members publish an annual calendar, a short story book, two illustrated books and two documentary films. Arne Drews processed his experiences in five Nepal crime novels, which are available in German, English and Nepali. All proceeds of the publishing house go to the association. So far, donations of over two million Euros have been made to the Nepalese partners. For this Nepalmed wants to thank all supporters on 28.03.2020.
The Nepalese ambassador Ramesh Khanal will give a speech on the occasion of the tourism year Nepal 2020. Afterwards, Ambassador Khanal, Honorary Consul Thapa from Cologne, Maren Fuhrmann from the mountaineering equipment supplier Tapir from Leipzig and representatives of Nepalmed e.V. will discuss in a round table moderated by Martin Pelzl from the Leipziger Volkszeitung. The programme will be rounded off with Nepalese flute music, traditional dance performances and a buffet from the Nepalese restaurant Chulo. The programme will conclude with a presentation by the Cologne alpinist Christof Nettekoven on his expedition to Mugu in the wild west of Nepal.
28.03.2020, start 11:30 am, end around 15:30 pm
For the buffet a contribution towards expenses of 5 € per person will be charged (to be paid on the day of the event)
