🇩🇪 Zähne, Bücher und eine Konferenz - Nepalmed im April

Liebe Nepalmed-Freunde, hier kommt der erste Newsletter in diesem Jahr - und ja, es war einiges los. Wir haben viel zu erzählen: ein Zahncamp in Phera, eine neue Bibliothek in Baitadi, ein Neurologiekongress in Kathmandu und viele neue Projekte.

🇬🇧 Teeth, Books, and a Conference – Nepalmed in April

Dear Nepalmed friends, here is our first newsletter of the year—and yes, a lot has been happening. We have plenty to share: a dental clinic in Phera, a new library in Baitadi, a neurology conference in Kathmandu, and many new projects.

🇩🇪 Kostenlose Zahnuntersuchung & Behandlung für die gesamte Schulgemeinschaft

Im März fand das erste der vierteljährlichen von Nepalmed finanzierten Zahncamps am Gesundheitsposten Phera statt. Schülerinnen und Schüler, Lehrkräfte und Eltern wurden untersucht und kostenlos versorgt. Ungefähr 100 Patienten konnten in 3 Tagen behandelt werden.

Der nepalesische Kollege wurde dabei tatkräftig von Dr. Franziska Becker unterstützt. Im gemeinsamen Einsatz wurde wertvolles Fachwissen ausgetauscht und die Zahnstation vor Ort mit weiterem Behandlungsmaterial ausgestattet – ein wichtiger Schritt zur nachhaltigen Stärkung der zahnmedizinischen Versorgung in Phera.

Ihr Engagement, ihr Wissen und ihr persönlicher Einsatz haben dieses Camp zu einem vollen Erfolg gemacht. 

🇬🇧 Free Dental Examinations & Treatment for the entire School Community

In March, the first of the quarterly dental camps supported by Nepalmed took place at the Phera Health Post. Students, teachers, and parents received examinations and free treatment. Approximately 100 patients were treated over the course of three days.

Our Nepalese colleague was actively supported by Dr. Franziska Becker. During this joint effort, valuable expertise was shared, and the on-site dental clinic was equipped with additional treatment materials - an important step toward sustainably strengthening dental care in Phera.

Her dedication, knowledge, and personal commitment made this camp a complete success. 

🇬🇧 In 2025, an educational workshop on the topic of mass hysteria was held at Shree Krishna Secondary School in the Baitadi region. 

Mahendra Joshi, our on-site project manager, led creative writing sessions as part of the workshop. The students realized how much they lacked access to books and literature, and their desire for a library became increasingly clear. In this rural area, books are scarce, yet the hunger for knowledge is great. 

During our Advent fundraiser, we collected the necessary donations and were able to equip the library with furniture and, above all, books. 

On March 22, 2026, the Sharad Library was officially opened! 800 students now have access to printed knowledge.

What began as an educational project has become a place of inspiration and learning. 

🇩🇪 Am 27. und 28. Februar 2026 fand in Kathmandu eine Neurowissenschaftskonferenz mit vielen Vorträgen statt. Organisiert wurde diese von Nepalmed und dem Nepal Stroke Project.

Themenfelder waren Epilepsiechirurgie, Neuro-Tuberkulose, moderne Bildgebungsverfahren, KI in der Neuroradiologie und Nepal-spezifische neurologische Herausforderungen. 

Es gab Fallpräsentationen und einen praktischen NIHSS-Workshop.

Diese deutsch-nepalesische Kooperation brachte internationales Fachwissen nach Nepal und förderte den medizinischen Wissenstransfer.

🇬🇧 On February 27 and 28, 2026, a neuroscience conference featuring numerous presentations was held in Kathmandu. It was organized by Nepalmed and the Nepal Stroke Project.

Topics included epilepsy surgery, neurotuberculosis, modern imaging techniques, AI in neuroradiology, and Nepal-specific neurological challenges.

There were case presentations and a hands-on NIHSS workshop.

This German-Nepalese collaboration brought international expertise to Nepal and promoted the transfer of medical knowledge.

🇩🇪 Von unseren Projektpartner vor Ort haben uns einige neue Anfragen erreicht. So benötigt das Sangla Primary Health Care Center am Rande des Kathmandu Tales Unterstützung bei der Laborausstattung. Das Kirtipur und Kathmandu Hospital haben um Hilfe bei der Erneuerung der Krankenhauswäscherei angefragt und auch das Ziel der Spendenaktion für den Mammographie Bus ist noch nicht ganz erreicht. 

Wir bitten daher weiterhin um ihre finanzielle Unterstützung. Gemeinsam können wir noch mehr erreichen - für Gesundheit, besser Bildung und Lebensqualität in Nepal!

🇬🇧 We have received several new requests from our local project partners. For example, the Sangla Primary Health Care Center on the outskirts of the Kathmandu Valley needs support for laboratory equipment. The Kirtipur and Kathmandu Hospital has requested assistance in renovating the hospital laundry facility, and the fundraising goal for the mammography bus has not yet been fully met. 

We therefore continue to ask for your financial support. Together, we can achieve even more—for health, better education, and quality of life in Nepal!
