🇩🇪 Ruhig atmen und Schallwellen messen: So untersucht das TUTH jetzt die Lunge. 🫁
Ein Mundstück und ein paar ruhige Atemzüge für den Lungenfunktionstest: Die Oszillometrie misst mit Schallwellen, wie leicht die Luft durch die Atemwege strömt. Die Spirometrie verlangt kräftiges Ausatmen, das fällt Kindern, älteren und sehr kranken Menschen schwer.
Nepalmed hat dem Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) in Kathmandu so ein Gerät gespendet. Passend zur 1st Nepal-Germany Conference am 11. Oktober, bei der es um Lunge und Arbeit ging.
Julie und Brendan Cooper aus Großbritannien haben das TUTH-Team geschult. Julie leitet den Bereich Lungenfunktion und Schlaf am Good Hope Hospital in Birmingham, Brendan ist Professor für Atemphysiologie. Erst Theorie, dann direkt am Gerät. Das Team hörte aufmerksam zu und übte mit sichtlichem Interesse. 🇳🇵

🇬🇧 Breathe calmly, measure with sound waves: this is how TUTH now examines the lungs. 🫁
A mouthpiece, a few calm breaths: oscillometry uses sound waves to measure how easily air flows through the airways. Spirometry requires forceful exhalation, which is hard for children, older people and people who are very ill.
Nepalmed has donated a device like this to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) in Kathmandu. It fits the 1st Nepal-Germany Conference on 11 October, which was all about lungs and work.
Julie and Brendan Cooper from the United Kingdom trained the TUTH team. Julie leads the Lung Function and Sleep service at Good Hope Hospital in Birmingham, Brendan is Professor of Respiratory Physiology. Theory first, then hands-on with the device. The team listened attentively and practised with visible interest. 🇳🇵

🇩🇪 1. Tagung zur Arbeitsmedizin erfolgreich durchgeführt! 🇳🇵
Mit 67 Teilnehmenden am Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu haben wir uns am 11. Oktober 2026 intensiv mit dem Thema Arbeitsmedizin (Occupational Medicine) beschäftigt.
Im klinischen Alltag stehen Tuberkulose und Staublunge im Vordergrund. Berufskrankheiten als eigenes Feld, samt der 2025 verabschiedeten Verordnung, waren für viele im Saal Neuland, auch für erfahrene Fachleute.
Dr. Arne Drews zeigte an Bildbeispielen, wie weit das Thema reicht: Benzol kann im Knochenmark Leukämie auslösen. Aromatische Amine, etwa in Schmierfetten, können Harnblasenkrebs verursachen. Radiologen, Pathologen, Lungenärzte und die Vertreter der Krankenversicherung hörten genau hin.
Arne Drews: „Ich hoffe, wir haben hier einen Samen gepflanzt.“

🇬🇧 1st conference on occupational medicine successfully held!
With 67 participants at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu, we focused on occupational medicine on 11 October 2026.
In daily clinical practice, tuberculosis and dust-related lung disease come first. Occupational disease as a field of its own, including the regulation adopted in 2025, was new territory for many in the room, experienced specialists included.
Dr. Arne Drews used image examples to show how far the topic reaches: benzene can cause leukaemia in the bone marrow. Aromatic amines, for instance in lubricating greases, can cause bladder cancer. Radiologists, pathologists, pulmonologists and representatives of the health insurance listened closely.
Dr. Arne: "I hope we have planted a seed here."

🇩🇪 Täglich 1.200 Liter sauberes Wasser für ein Waisenhaus💧
Seit vielen Jahren unterstützen wir ein Waisenhaus in Kathmandu. Mädchen und junge Frauen zwischen 6 und 20 Jahren leben dort, alle aus dem ländlichen Nepal. Bisher ging unsere Hilfe dort in die medizinische Versorgung wie Arztbesuche, Vorsorge und Medikamente.
Jetzt kommt Vorbeugung dazu.
Der Lions Club Grimma hat einen PAUL-Wasserfilter von Wasserrucksack PAUL gespendet.
PAUL steht für Portable Aqua Unit for Lifesaving 💧
Prof. Frechen und sein Team an der Universität Kassel haben ihn entwickelt. Er filtert 99% der Bakterien und Viren aus dem Wasser. Es laufen rund 5.000 Geräte weltweit!
Das Team von Menschenfreude-charity hat den Aufbau vor Ort koordiniert. DHL hat den Transport unterstützt. Vielen Dank an beide!
Die Mädchen und ihre Betreuerinnen haben gelernt, den Filter selbst zu bedienen. Seitdem kommt jeden Tag sauberes Trinkwasser aus der Station. Ein Geschenk. 🙏🏻

🇬🇧 1,200 liters of clean water for an orphanage. Every day.💧
For many years, we have supported an orphanage in Kathmandu. Girls and young women between 6 and 20 live there, all from rural Nepal. So far, our help went into medical care like doctor visits, check-ups, medicine.
Now we add prevention.
The Lions Club Grimma donated a PAUL water filter. PAUL stands for Portable Aqua Unit for Lifesaving. Prof. Frechen and his team at the University of Kassel developed it. It filters bacteria and viruses out of the water – and around 5,000 units run worldwide!
The Menschenfreude e.V. team coordinated the installation on site. DHL supported the transport. Thanks to both.
The girls and their caregivers learned to operate the filter themselves. Since then, clean drinking water comes out of the station every day. What a gift. 🙏🏻
