🇩🇪 Meine Nepal-Tour zu unseren Projektstationen geht los. In einem kleinen Tagebuch möchte ich alle Interessierten in der nächsten Zeit mitnehmen.
Nach langem Flug bin ich in Kathmandu und es geht zur ersten Station meiner Projekttour, nach Bayalpata im Distrikt Achham, ganz im Westen des Landes. Mit dabei sind Orthopäde Bhaskar Raj Pant von Nyaya Health Nepal und sein Sohn.
Ursprünglich war geplant, von Bayalpata weiter nach Dolpo zu reisen. Daraus wird nichts. Die Flugverbindungen dorthin sind zu unzuverlässig und die Vorstellung, dort festzusitzen, ist keine Option.
Stattdessen kommt Dr. Sujan Kathayat aus Dolpo zu uns, einmal quer durch das Land. Er war einst Medizinstudent, den Nepalmed bei seinem Studium unterstützt hat. Heute arbeitet Sujan als Arzt im Dolpo-Distrikt-Krankenhaus und wir sind herzlich eingeladen uns seine Arbeit dort anzuschauen. Er wird jetzt erstmal zu uns nach Bayalpata reisen und an unseren Workshops teilnehmen, die wir zusammen mit Nyaya Health durchführen: Gefäß-Ultraschall und Gefäßnähte.
Bhaskar soll vor Ort eine Hüftgelenksersatz-Operation durchführen. Für das Bayalpata Hospital wird das eine Premiere sein.
Der Weg nach Bayalpata ist nicht einfach: Frühmorgens fliegen wir nach Dhangadhi, dann folgt eine stundenlange Fahrt im Auto. Flüge gibt es kaum, wir planen eine Woche vor Ort. Ich berichte weiter, wie es läuft.

🇬🇧 My project tour to our partner sites in Nepal has begun. Follow along as I report from the field.
First stop: Bayalpata Hospital, Achham District, Far West Nepal. I’m travelling with orthopaedic surgeon Bhaskar Raj Pant from Nyaya Health Nepal.
Our original plan included continuing to Dolpo, but unreliable flight connections made that too risky. Instead, Dr. Sujan Kathayat is joining us in Bayalpata. Nepalmed supported him through medical school, today he’s a doctor at Dolpo District Hospital. He’ll take part in our workshops on vascular ultrasound and vascular suturing.
Bhaskar will also perform a total hip replacement, that’s a first for Bayalpata Hospital.
Getting here isn’t easy, so we’re planning a week on site. More to follow.

Mahendra Joshi, unser Projektleiter in Baitadi, hat zum Nepalesischen Neujahr 2083 etwas Besonderes geteilt: „Shiksha ko Jyoti” ist ein Song über Bildung, über Schule, über die Kraft des Lernens.
Es zeigt das Projekt an der Shree Krishna Sekundarschule auf berührende Weise. Das Projekt, wodurch nach dem Mass-Hysteria-Workshop die Sharad Library entstanden ist. Es zeigt die Region, die Kinder und die Träume. Wir gucken es uns direkt noch einmal an und wünschen:

Mahendra Joshi, our project lead in Baitadi, has shared something special for Nepali New Year 2083: Shiksha ko Jyoti is a song about education, about school, about the power of learning.
It captures the project at Shree Krishna Secondary School in a truly moving way – the project that grew out of the Mass Hysteria Workshop and gave rise to the Sharad Library. It shows the region, the children, and their dreams. We’re watching it again right now.

Today, Nepal steps into the new year 2083
On this day, families reunite, temples fill with prayers and incense, homes are cleaned and decorated for a fresh start.
To all our friends, partners and colleagues in Nepal: we think of you today with warmth and gratitude. May 2083 bring you and your loved ones everything you wish for. 🙏

2083? Was steckt denn dahinter?
Nepal folgt nicht dem gregorianischen Kalender, den wir in Europa kennen. Das Land nutzt den Bikram Sambat (BS), ein uraltes lunisolares Zeitsystem, das etwa 56–57 Jahre vor unserem Kalender liegt. Das neue Jahr beginnt am 1. Baisakh, dem ersten Tag des ersten Nepali-Monats und fällt immer in die Mitte des April.
Die rote Rhododendron-Blüte auf dem Bild ist kein Zufall: Sie ist Nepals Nationalblume und blüht genau zu dieser Jahreszeit. 🌺
