🇩🇪 Im Zoo Leipzig gibt es Nachwuchs. Kamala, ein nepalesisches Rote-Panda-Weibchen, hat Anfang Juni zwei Junge zur Welt gebracht. 🐼
🇩🇪 In Chicago haben wir beschlossen, das Mammographie-Screening im Distrikt Chitwan umzusetzen. 🙏🏻 Das bedeutet mobiles Screening für Frauen im ländlichen Nepal, die eine Brustkrebsdiagnose sonst schlicht nicht erreichen.
Sangla liegt am Stadtrand von Kathmandu – und trotzdem ist das Sangla Primary Health Care Centre hier für viele Menschen die einzige medizinische Anlaufstelle weit und breit. Täglich kommen Patientinnen und Patienten mit Beschwerden, die eine verlässliche Diagnose brauchen. Lange fehlte dafür die Grundausstattung.
Dank Ihrer Unterstützung hat sich das geändert. 🙏🏻
Dr. Birgit Kirsch hat während ihres Nepal-Aufenthalts gemeinsam mit unserem Projektpartner vor Ort, Babu Ram Giri, die Geräte persönlich übergeben: einen Elektrolyt-Analysator, einen Biochemie-Analysator, ein FIA-Gerät, einen Autoklav sowie Computer und Drucker. Geräte, die Ärztinnen und Ärzten vor Ort endlich ermöglichen, was anderswo selbstverständlich ist ➡️ zuverlässig zu diagnostizieren.

Sangla is on the outskirts of Kathmandu - and yet the Primary Health Care Center here is the only medical facility many people can reach. Every day, patients arrive with conditions that need a reliable diagnosis. For a long time, the basic equipment to do that simply wasn’t there.
That changed thanks to your support. 🙏🏻
Dr. Birgit Kirsch handed over the equipment in person during her stay in Nepal, together with Babu Ram Giri: an electrolyte analyser, a biochemistry analyser, an FIA device, an autoclave, and a computer with printer. Equipment that allows doctors here to do what is taken for granted elsewhere ➡️ diagnose reliably.

2017 zeigte Naturfilmer Dr. Axel Gebauer bei der Eröffnung der Himalayawelt im Zoo Leipzig erstmals seinen Kurzfilm „Der vergessene Panda”. Eine Doku über eine Tierart, die im Himalaya lebt und vom Aussterben bedroht ist. Arne Drews, Autor unserer Nepal-Krimis, saß im Publikum und hatte seinen nächsten Kriminalfall.
Das Ergebnis ist „Netzwerk”, erschienen in der Edition Nepalmed, dem Verlag von Nepalmed e.V.

🇬🇧 Leipzig Zoo has new arrivals. Kamala, a Nepalese red panda, gave birth to two cubs in early June. 🐼
In 2017, wildlife filmmaker Dr. Axel Gebauer premiered his short documentary “Der vergessene Panda” at the opening of the Himalaya World at Leipzig Zoo. It’s a film about a species native to the Himalayas and threatened with extinction. Arne Drews, author of our Nepal crime series, was in the audience and found his next story.

Red Panda Network
Die WHO übernimmt die Therapie und wir sorgen dafür, dass die Diagnose dort gestellt wird, wo es bisher nicht möglich war.
Ende Mai sind Silke und ich zum 30-jährigen Jubiläum der America Nepal Medical Foundation nach Chicago gereist. Wie bei Nepalmed arbeiten alle ANMF-Mitglieder ehrenamtlich, das merkt man in der Zusammenarbeit.
Dass Sauerstoff in den Krankenhäusern in vielen Teilen Nepals noch keine Selbstverständlichkeit ist, hat die ANMF verändert: mit Produktionsanlagen in allen sieben nepalesischen Provinzen. Jede einzelne ist im sechsstelligen Dollarbereich. Für das Amppipal Hospital hat Nepalmed gemeinsam mit Rotary Clubs und der ANMF kofinanziert.
Videokonferenzen ersetzen vieles. Aber nicht den Moment, wenn man jemandem, mit dem man seit Jahren zusammenarbeitet, endlich wieder gegenübersitzt.

🇬🇧 In Chicago, we decided to go ahead with mammography screening in the Chitwan district. 🙏🏻 That means mobile screening for women in rural Nepal who would otherwise have no access to a breast cancer diagnosis. The WHO handles treatment, we make sure the diagnosis reaches the places it hasn’t before.
At the end of May, Silke and I travelled to Chicago for the 30th anniversary of the America Nepal Medical Foundation. Like Nepalmed, all ANMF members work on a voluntary basis and you feel it in how people work together.
Access to oxygen is still not a given in many parts of Nepal. The ANMF has changed that with production units across all seven Nepali provinces, each in the six-figure range. For Amppipal Hospital, Nepalmed co-financed the unit together with Rotary Clubs and the ANMF.
Video calls replace many things. But not the moment when you finally sit across from someone you’ve worked with for years.
