The Department of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at the B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) in Dharan/Nepal needs our help to improve medical care in the region. We are urgently requesting financial support to purchase a state-of-the-art bodyplethysmograph with the ability to measure diffusing capacity of carbon monoxide (DLCO).
In Nepal, many people are affected by respiratory diseases, whether due to environmental factors, smoking, genetic predispositions or even the Covid – wave. A bodyplethysmograph will enable accurate diagnoses to be made and personalized therapies to be offered that can significantly improve patients’ quality of life.
A bodyplethysmograph is a medical device that is essential in the diagnosis of respiratory and pulmonary diseases. It allows accurate and precise measurements of lung function to be made. With these measurements, diseases such as asthma, COPD, pulmonary fibrosis and other serious respiratory problems can be detected early and appropriate treatment plans can be developed.
DLCO allows conclusions to be drawn about the lungs’ ability to take in oxygen and release cohelical dioxide. Decreased values indicate certain lung diseases, which is why the measurement of DLCO is an important diagnostic procedure in pulmonary medicine.
The Department of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at BPKIHS is a leader in training quality staff and providing the best services to the general population. It also plays an important role in the training of specialists in pulmonary medicine, intensive care medicine and sleep medicine.
