The Sangla Primary Health Care Center is located on the outskirts of the Kathmandu Valley and is the only nearby public health facility for some 30,000 people from the surrounding communities. Pregnant women come here for prenatal care, children with fevers, older adults with chronic conditions – and anyone who cannot afford the long, expensive trip to a city hospital. There is already an ultrasound machine – an old, purely manual model. But it fails so often that you can’t rely on it for a reliable diagnosis. This can be dangerous, especially during prenatal care and in acute emergencies.
Why this is so urgent
Without reliable ultrasound diagnostics, high-risk pregnancies often go undetected until it is too late. Acute conditions such as internal injuries or organ problems cannot be diagnosed on-site, patients must then seek care at more distant hospitals at their own expense, which wastes valuable time in emergencies and is simply unaffordable for many families in the region.
What We Plan to Do
We would like to replace the old, frequently malfunctioning device with a new, reliable ultrasound machine (Samsung HS40) – equipped with three transducers for abdominal, obstetric, gynecological, and urological diagnostics, as well as for soft tissue and vascular imaging. The offer comes from an established medical technology supplier in Kathmandu, ensuring prompt delivery and installation.
